Searching the Salida Court Docket
Look first at which court the paper names. Citations issued into Salida Municipal Court can be checked through the city-authorized Salida court search. A state felony or misdemeanor does not belong there. The same holds for county traffic cases, civil suits, family cases, probate matters, and small claims. Those Salida-area settings show up in the Chaffee-filtered Colorado Docket Search when publicly posted.
Keep the citation or case number close at hand. Salida city searches offer several routes. Exact numbers cut the risk of matching another person. The state search splits a Combined Court number into year, case class, and sequence. Remember that its result is a hearing list, not a full case history. For the complete Salida record, note the case number. Then ask the correct clerk for the Register of Action or a named filing.
- Read the issuing court and agency on the citation or notice.
- Use the Salida portal for a city citation, or the state Docket Search for a Combined Court case.
- Search with the exact citation or case number when it is known.
- Compare the date, court, hearing type, appearance mode, and room.
- Confirm the Salida setting with the responsible clerk before appearing.
Salida Citation Search Fields
Salida runs the county's most detailed municipal lookup. No sign-in is needed for the initial search screen. It accepts a citation number, a name with date of birth, or a business name. A vehicle plate with state also works. So do driver-license details with issuing state and date of birth. The Salida interface also offers a Social Security number route. Use a less sensitive identifier whenever it finds the same citation.
| Salida search route | What to enter | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Citation number | Number printed on the ticket | Most direct Salida match |
| Name | First name, last name, and birth date | When the ticket is not at hand |
| Vehicle | Plate and issuing state | Vehicle-linked citation search |
| Business | Business name | City-code matters involving an entity |
A missing match does not mean the Salida matter vanished. The entry may be too new, keyed under a different field, set for mandatory appearance, or filed as a Chaffee County case. Call the Salida clerk before switching courts at random.
Salida Municipal Court Basics
Salida Municipal Court is a court of record. It hears City Code violations and civil traffic infractions, not the full range of state cases. Court meets in Room 190 of the Touber Building at 448 East First Street. Enter through the C Street entrance. Reach the Salida clerk at 719-530-2629. Hours run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff can explain Salida procedure but cannot give legal advice. For negotiating a pending case, the municipal prosecutor is the city official to contact.
Juveniles under eighteen must appear with a parent or guardian. Payments and mail service go through City Hall in Suite 112 at the same address. The main number is 719-539-4555. The split matters. A Salida docket question and a payment question can lead to different counters in one building. Neither counter holds Chaffee District or County Court files.
Two Salida Court Dockets
Salida is both a city with its own court and the county seat. That creates a local routing trap. Salida Municipal Court sits in the Touber Building. Chaffee Combined Court is at 142 Crestone Avenue. An event within city limits does not decide the docket; the charge, prosecuting authority, and issuing court do. A municipal ordinance case stays with Salida. A felony or general civil case begins in Combined Court even when everything happened inside Salida.
| Record clue | Salida destination | Docket scope |
|---|---|---|
| City Code or municipal citation | Salida Municipal Court | City ordinance and municipal traffic case |
| CR, CV, DR, PR, or juvenile class | Chaffee District Court | State District Court matter |
| M, T, C, or S class | Chaffee County Court | Misdemeanor, county traffic, civil, or small claim |
The Combined Court clerk serves both state trial levels. Salida's elected county Clerk and Recorder is a separate office and holds no court Register of Action.
Court Dates and Settings in Salida
Read every Salida setting as a set of fields, not just a date. The city citation supplies an appearance date and may state that court is required. Parking hearings happen at 2:00 p.m. on the listed appearance date. But you must request the hearing within fourteen days. Call 719-530-2629 to request it. Anyone living at least 100 miles away may ask in advance for a phone appearance. The Salida phone docket runs at 8:30 a.m. It is not available for parking matters.
| Date | The current Salida appearance date on the citation, notice, or clerk record. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed city setting time, including a separately scheduled phone or parking docket. |
| Location | Touber Building, Room 190, unless Salida gives other instructions. |
| Appearance | In person unless an allowed phone appearance was approved in advance. |
| Setting type | Arraignment, parking hearing, trial, compliance, or another event set by Salida. |
A portal screen helps, but the latest Salida notice controls. Call when a date changed, the appearance method is unclear, or the citation says court is required.
Salida Traffic Ticket Cure Rules
Salida publishes narrow cure rules that set its municipal docket apart. If insurance was valid on the citation date, email proof to courtclerk@cityofsalida.com before 4:00 p.m. on the day before appearance. The clerk may then dismiss that charge. Insurance bought only after the citation does not remove the need to appear. The city states the published $500 fine is generally reduced to $250 when later coverage is verified. The Salida court still controls the result.
Registration proof works differently. Proof that registration was valid on the citation date may support dismissal. Effective April 20, 2026, later registration can support clerk dismissal when the lapse was under four months and the $30 fee is paid. A longer lapse requires a Salida appearance. These are city rules, not a general promise for a Chaffee County T case. Use the issuing court's instructions.
Check the deadline: A Salida cure must meet the city rule and timing. Sending proof does not excuse an appearance unless the clerk confirms dismissal.
Traffic Tickets in Salida
Salida gives you several ways to pay a routine citation. Mail a check or money order. Pay at City Hall, or drop an envelope in the after-hours box on the Touber Building's B Street side. A credit card works on the city portal, too. Leave cash out of the drop box. Tickets marked "Summons to Appear" or "Court Required" work differently. Those demand an appearance instead of simple payment. Watch the calendar, too. Salida tacks $35 in costs onto an eligible citation. That applies if it sits unpaid twenty days after issuance.
Paying the ticket resolves the city case itself. That matters, because the payment is not just a search fee. If you plan to fight it, follow the appearance instructions. Contact the municipal clerk on time. Skipping the date can bring a bench warrant, a default fine, or collections. Salida municipal warrants run on personal-recognizance bonds. But you still have to surrender and be processed at the Chaffee County Detention Center before a new date is set. A county-issued ticket belongs elsewhere: see Chaffee County traffic tickets for those channels.
When Salida Search Finds Nothing
First, recheck the number and the spelling. Then confirm the citation truly belongs to Salida Municipal Court. When the city portal misses, the case may not have posted yet. The ticket may need direct handling, or the search field may simply not match the stored record. A state case will never slide into the Salida portal. The incident's Salida address does not change that.
A possible Combined Court matter calls for the statewide calendar with Chaffee County selected. The state tool demands at least one filter beyond the date range. It accepts a case number, a person, or a business. An attorney, a court type, or a location also works. Still nothing? Call the clerk printed on the document. Chaffee Combined Court answers at 719-539-2561, and the clerk email is ChaffeeCountyClerk@judicial.state.co.us. Ask which route the case took before you request records.
- Recheck the Salida citation number and name fields.
- Confirm the issuing agency and court on the paper.
- Try the Chaffee state calendar only for a state-court matter.
- Call the named clerk and keep the document in hand.
Where Salida Cases Go
Salida ordinance and municipal traffic cases open in Municipal Court and usually close there. State misdemeanors, county traffic, small claims, and lower-dollar civil suits land in Chaffee County Court. Felonies belong to Chaffee District Court. So do general civil suits, domestic relations, probate, and juvenile matters. County and District Court share the Chaffee Combined Court clerk and the same building. Their case classes stay separate.
Docket flow: Salida Municipal Court › Chaffee County Courts › District Court
Salida Municipal Court is a court of record. An appeal therefore goes to Chaffee District Court as a review of the record. It is not a fresh trial with witnesses. The deadline to file is thirty-five days. The state publishes JDF 222 for the appeal. Copies go to the City Attorney and the municipal clerk. The published filing fee runs $70, plus any appeal bond. JDF 205 and JDF 206 cover fee waiver. An appeal opens a District Court path only afterward. It never makes a Salida municipal case a county docket from day one.
Salida Docket Versus Filed Record
A Salida search result tells you when a case is due. It may identify the citation. What it often lacks is the signed order, the plea, the final outcome, or the full event history. For a municipal matter, request the city file from the Salida clerk. For a state case, use the Colorado record form. It pulls the Register of Action, the ticket, the disposition or sentence order, any protection order, and other named documents.
- Setting
- A scheduled Salida court event, not proof of the final outcome.
- Register of Action
- The chronological state-court case summary maintained by the Combined Court clerk.
- Disposition
- The recorded resolution of a charge or case.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk for an official use.
Ask only for the record you need. A broad request can add copy or review cost, while a precise title and date help the clerk find the right Salida document fast.
Salida Court Record Access Rules
Access depends on the record and on the court holding it. Salida Municipal Court hands out its city case records through the municipal clerk. Chaffee Combined Court records answer chiefly to Colorado Chief Justice Directive 05-01. The free state calendar gives remote access to settings, nothing more. It does not promise that every filing can be viewed online. Suppressed cases may demand identification or stay closed. Juvenile and probate records and protected documents carry the same limits on general inspection.
Key rules:
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 controls public access, exclusions, facility-only records, fees, and correction for Colorado court case records.
Colorado Supreme Court Chapter 38, Rule 2 applies to Judicial Branch administrative records, not a Salida case file.
C.R.S. sections 24-72-704 through 24-72-710 set parts of Colorado's criminal-record sealing framework.
An empty result is not proof that no Salida case exists. The matter may lack a hearing in the range you chose, sit under another court, or face an access limit. Confirm with the clerk where the case began.
Salida Court Docket Appeals
Appeals show how a case can change dockets. The original record is born in Salida Municipal Court. A timely appeal from that court of record moves the matter to Chaffee District Court. That court reviews the record rather than the witnesses. The municipal clerk and the City Attorney get copies. The transcript then moves to center stage. Under the ordinary court-of-record path, District Court does not retry anyone from scratch.
Keep both case numbers if District Court assigns a new one. The Salida municipal file explains what happened below. The District Court Register of Action tracks the appeal. Later review may follow Colorado appellate rules. A routine felony or general civil case skips Salida entirely. It starts at Combined Court, a distinction that saves you a wasted municipal search. For forms and current instructions, see the Colorado Judicial Branch municipal appeals page. Confirm deadlines and the record requirement before you file.
